Five things you may not know about Memphis Depay

Think you know everything about FC Barcelona’s new Dutch superstar? Think again.

FC Barcelona have announced the arrival of Dutch star Memphis Depay, the club’s fourth summer reinforcement, from French side Lyon. Memphis is known around the world, but here are five things you might not know about the 27-year-old.

His loves playing under Ronald Koeman

Memphis has made no secret of the fact that he is excited to work with Ronald Koeman again. This makes sense given how well the forward played under Koeman when the current Barça boss was in charge of the Netherlands. Memphis played 18 times under Koeman, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists in that time – directly contributing to a goal every 70 minutes.

A very special Brazilian tattoo

Memphis scored his first goal for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup, scoring in a 3-2 group stage win over Australia. He has since commemorated that moment with a tattoo of Rio’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue alongside the date: June 18th 2014. He has almost fifty other tattoos, including a huge lion covering his back and wings on his chest.

‘Memphis,’ please

The Dutchman always wears ‘Memphis’ on the back of his shirt, as opposed to his surname. He has explained that it’s a decision he took due to his difficult relationship with his father, who left the family when he was just four years old. “Those things are a part of my life,” he told the BBC in 2015. “It is not part of football. It is a different thing, I have a life next to football.”

His music career

As well as banging in the goals on the pitch, Memphis has produced quite a few ‘bangers’ in the recording studio as well! He loves music and has released several tracks, starting with LA Vibes back in 2017. Over the years, he has collaborated with well-known Dutch artists such as Broederliefde, Winne and Nana Fofie.

He was engaged to Lori Harvey

Memphis was engaged to Lori Harvey, the step-daughter of American TV presenter Steve Harvey, in 2017. “This young man is a good one,” Harvey said at the time on his Twitter profile. In the end, though, they broke the engagement off.

LaLiga will have more Olympians in Japan than any other league

There will be 30 Spain-based players representing their countries at the men’s football tournament in this summer’s Olympic Games.

The men’s football tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games is about to get under way, with all 16 teams beginning their quests for gold on July 22nd. Spain are one of the favourites to win the gold medal and Luis de la Fuente’s squad is packed with exciting young LaLiga talent, as 20 members of his 22-man squad played their football in LaLiga Santander or LaLiga Smartbank last season.

Some of the most high-profile members of the Spain Olympics team include Getafe’s dynamic winger Marc Cucurella, Real Sociedad’s midfield metronome Mikel Merino, Real Madrid’s goalscoring wide man Marco Asensio and the Euro 2020 stars Unai Simón, Eric García, Pau Torres, Mikel Oyarzabal, Dani Olmo and Pedri. Pedri even comes into the Olympics after being named the Euro 2020 Young Player of the Tournament.

In addition to the 20 Spaniards, there are another 10 LaLiga players at the tournament representing other countries. These are France’s Modibo Sagnan, Japan’s Takefusa Kubo, South Korea’s Kang-in Lee, Ivory Coast’s Idrissa Doumbia, Mexico’s Diego Lainez, Brazil’s Diego Carlos, Romania’s Alex Pașcanu and Andrei Rațiu and Argentina’s Jeremías Ledesma and Nehuén Pérez.

This means that there are 30 LaLiga players at this summer’s men’s football tournament in Japan, spread across nine of the 16 competing nations. No other league has this many representatives at the Olympic Games this year. Looking at the other major leagues of Europe, there are 24 Germany-based players going, 23 from France, 16 from England and nine who ply their trade in Italy.

The 30 Spain-based players who will be competing in Japan come from 17 different clubs, with Athletic Club, FC Barcelona, Cádiz CF, RC Celta, SD Eibar, RCD Espanyol, Granada CF, Getafe CF, SD Huesca, CA Osasuna, SD Ponferradina, Real Betis, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Sevilla FC, Valencia CF and Villarreal CF all having members of their 2020/21 squads at the Games. Of those clubs, it’s Real Sociedad who are sending more players than any other team as Martín Zubimendi, Mikel Oyarzabal, Mikel Merino and Modibo Sagnan will all be present in Japan this summer.

The Olympic Games squad lists also highlight the quality that is present in Spain’s LaLiga SmartBank. While 27 of the 30 Spain-based players were in the top division, in LaLiga Santander, last campaign, Javi Puado, Óscar Gil and Alex Pașcanu’s performances in the Spanish second tier were impressive enough to earn them call-ups for the tournament too.

With so many players at the tournament, there will be some fascinating LaLiga battles in Japan this summer. For example, fans will be able to see Takefusa Kubo go up against Diego Lainez when Japan face Mexico in the second round of group stage games. Then, when Spain play Argentina in the final round of group matches, there will be a very special moment for Granada fans as Spain’s captain Jesús Vallejo and the Albiceleste captain Nehuén Pérez should lead their respective sides out, after playing together at centre-back this past season in Andalusia.

This summer’s tournament should be a thrilling one as the 16 qualified teams battle it out for a place in the gold medal match in Yokohama on August 7th. With 30 Spain-based players in the tournament, there is a good chance that at least one LaLiga player will be celebrating come the end of this competition.

The new RC Celta kit ‘challenges’ those of Napoli, Lazio, Manchester City, New York City Football Club and the Uruguay National Team

All these teams wear the same ‘celeste’ colors and their fans have already been able to see the Vigo team’s jersey in their streets under the following slogan: “Sorry, but take a look at our ‘celeste’”

RC Celta already has his new skin for the 2021/22 season. It is one of the most iconic shirts of LaLiga Santander for its traditional light blue color (‘celeste’, in Spanish). A color that no one else wears in the Spanish championship… and there are not many more examples among the elite of world football. And although the design of the shirt remains practically unchanged over the years, RC Celta has surprised everyone this summer with its launch campaign, which allows them to conquer several cities around the world.

Cause it has managed to make the RC Celta home kit look in those other cities that also dress their teams in light blue color. The shirt, with the hashtag #EnvidiaCeleste (Light Blue Envy concept, in English), has ‘challenged’ those worn by the teams of Napoli, Lazio, Manchester City, New York City Football Club and the Uruguay National Team with different initiatives aimed at presenting their fans with the kit of the RC Celta under the same slogan -that has been adapted for the fans of each team-: “Sorry, but take a look at our ‘celeste’”.

In capitals such as Rome, Naples and Manchester, as well as among their fans on Social Media, expectations have been raised with the posters and messages that accompany the new light blue kit, asserting that characteristic color that has put RC Celta in an exceptional place on the football planet.

For its part, this ‘celeste’ RC Celta shirt is made with 40% recycled polyester to reaffirm the commitment to the environment. And each shirt is unique thanks to a QR code that not only guarantees its authenticity, but will offer each fan who activates it numerous exclusive benefits and surprises. A distinction that the club wanted to have with their fans in the season in which they will be able to return to the Abanca Balaídos stadium after COVID-19.

UMNO Bukan Hanya Tahu Kritik – Ahmad Zahid #ms

Will return of Malaysia's scandal-ridden ex-DPM Zahid Hamidi boost Umno or leave it in tatters? | South China Morning Post

  • PKP 2.0 dikuatkuasa bermula 13 Januari 2021 selepas jangkitan harian cecah 3,027 kes.
  • Namun sangat longgar pasti gagal kurangkan kes maka kita cadang “total lockdown” dilaksanakan.
  • Namun rakyat menderita kerana kurang dibantu apabila sebahagian sektor ekonomi ditutup.
  • Jika jujur mahu rakyat segera diberi kelonggaran maka imunisasi kelompok perlu dipercepatkan.

Justeru tidak timbul isu pimpinan UMNO hanya tahu kritik, tetapi tidak beri cadangan.

Isu yang sebenar adalah tentang kisah sesebuah kegagalan dalam menguruskan pandemik.
