Incident Date: 7:20 PM, Saturday, 1 May 2021
Location: Island Plaza, Penang

On Saturday evening, two were involved in an accident beside the Island Plaza mall in Penang. It is believed that the incident took place after two vehicles attempted to avoid one another.

As seen in the photos above, the Mini Cooper ended up running into a concrete barrier, causing massive damage to the vehicle. Meanwhile, the Myvi can be seen running off over a ledge in the middle of the road, and running into the back of another vehicle.

The victims involved were the driver of a Mini Cooper and an elderly couple in a Perodua Myvi, both of the latter suffered minor injuries and bleeding. A woman from the Myvi was seen in shock and had trouble forming words immediately after the crash, whilst the man reportedly injured his right arm. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the 7:20pm incident.

According to reports, the Myvi at quite some speed, was making a turn out into the path of the oncoming Mini Cooper, unbeknownst to the latter who was driving at a relatively high-speed on the road of Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang. In an attempt to avoid a collision, they both swerved in the opposite directions, the heavy rain made matters worse as both cars skidded in their attempts and ended up crashing in opposite directions.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the paramedics soon arrived at the scene to assist the victims as well as provide medical treatment for their injuries. The incident led to a massive traffic jam in the area, and the scene was eventually cleared once aid was provided by EMT.

We’d like to urge everyone to stay safe on the roads and to always be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times.
