For decades, Bell & Ross has been synonymous with haute horology. What makes Bell & Ross stand apart from the top brands of timepieces? Aeronautical instrumentation is incorporated beautifully and seamlessly with modern functionality in the BR design. The latest model launched this year is no exception.
The third in the BR 05 collection, BR 05 GMT does more than epitomise the urbanite’s desire to escape from the shackles of the pandemic and to travel the globe. Its integrated design is ideal for any active, urban lifestyle with its precious finishes and robust comfort.
A must-have for the global citizen
With the convenience and connectivity of the Internet of Things, any distinguished individual today is a global citizen. One can no longer exist in only one time zone as our activities – be it leisure or business – would coincide with another part of the world’s. The BR 05 GMT allows such urban travellers to quickly tell the time of two countries with a graceful flick of the wrist.
This is made possible by the clever incorporation of two components. An inner dial gives the watch a 24-hour scale for one timezone on top of the main 12-hour dial for another timezone. To add this 24h-scale in the flange, Bell & Ross has increased the diameter of the dial and thus the 41mm case. The black semi-circle on the flange represents night-time hours while the grey semi-circle represents daytime hours.
The second component is the GMT hand – a prominent red arrow hand. It points on the 24-hour graduated inner bezel to indicate the time in the wearer’s country of origin while the white hands on the main dial indicate the time of current location.
The design detail of the dial serves two purposes. Firstly, the color scheme (white, black, and red) is representative of the Bell & Ross DNA and it famously echoes the colors used for on-board flight instruments. Secondly, it is to ensure perfect legibility both day and night.
The black background radiates a subtle sunray finish and contrasts with the large numerals, indices, and hands coated in white Super-LumiNova®. This color scheme is commonly used in the cockpits of airplanes as it guarantees optimal reading while preventing reflections on the dial. To further prevent the latter, the sapphire crystal of the BR 05 GMT is fortified with an anti-reflective coating.
A statement of strength, elegance, and contemporary chic
Being the mid-sized piece in the collection, the BR 05 GMT carries itself with soft solidity. Its 41mm case is large but measured, with alternating lines of elegant curves and strong lines. It is masculine yet subtle and relevant to the contemporary man.
The body of the BR 05 GMT is carved in satin-finished and polished steel, capturing the energy and soul of high-class urban life. At the same time, it echoes the strong metallic atmosphere of airport hangars with their metal, concrete, contrasting surfaces, and white lights.
The lines of the square steel case flow effortlessly down the lugs and bracelet as all the timepieces in the BR 05 Collection are designed to be a single solid piece. This look not only exudes elegance but offers great durability.
A dedication to robust comfort
Made from a combination of stainless steel and robust materials, the BR 05 GMT encases only the best and finest of Swiss watchmaking mechanics. Equipped with an automatic caliber BR-CAL.325 with GMT function, wound by a 360° oscillating weight, this new model reveals the beating heart of its movement through a sapphire glass case-back.
The bracelet is integrated with the case to create a unified piece which wraps ergonomically around the wearer’s wrist. Its articulated links offer exemplary flexibility, almost as much as the ribbed black rubber strap option. The BR 05 GMT is also waterproof, made to withstand up to a 100-meter depth. Further securing the robustness of this timepiece are its crown guard and sapphire case-back.
The BR 05 Collection
Bell & Ross first introduced its flagship features within this collection in 2019. After the 40mm BR 05 Automatic, the 42mm chronograph version (BR 05 Chrono) was launched in 2020. The BR 05 GMT comes in two varieties for the discernable urban traveller. Its stainless steel bracelet option retails at RM23,000 while its black rubber strap option is retailed at only RM20,500.
